Tracing steps back to my younger self, I still feel bound to Michelle Rodriguez’s portrayal of Diana Guzman in Karyn Kusama’s Girlfight. Making a link between mine and a dream world is a form of psychic clarity. “I saw myself in that” is a flicker of joy that I, and other trans people I know, cherish. What they do, however, is allow me to confront images that, by the concerted alchemy of the filmmaking process, evoke something close to a personal experience. It’s often difficult to parse what makes it all “real” and I know the movies will not have every answer I need. I obsess over patterns of behaviour and speech and presentation. The space between my self-discovery and “coming out” as trans is a kaleidoscopic mess of emotion.

All these places offered an opportunity to meet some great people and get together with friends for some good times! Reply Bar service was always good with a nice selection of popular drinks. The decor was a WW!! theme complete with memorabilia from back in that time period. They played great music and I always remember the dance floor jumping! The restaurant area served an English menu of popular dishes. If you worked at Fairchild Republic, you probably knew this pub as a go-to spot to dance, eat and drink! Also again, the 56th Fighter Group had a nice dance floor and the DJ would take requests in a leather Army bag that got hoisted up to the DJ’s booth. Smaller dance floor, but this place played great music and had great bar service and drinks. Also, Fulton Street, off Conklin Street in Farmingdale. Music was good and this place would really start rocking after 8:00 pm on Friday nights. Thanks! ReplyĪnyone remember The Quad located in the Huntington Quadrangle lower level off Route 110 in Melville, NY? It had a big dance floor and a nice big bar. This has been on my mind for a very long time. If any of you know the name of this place please post it. Real bummer, but I simply disconnected the speaker and went on rocking. Had to emergency shut down the entire sound system. During the week I attempted to repair it and then the next Friday night, again with a packed dancefloor, the speaker went on fire. I remember one night the place was super hopping, the dancefloor was packed and I blew out one of the speakers which were big and there was one positioned at each corner of the dancefloor. There were 2 LONG bars, one on the right side going from the front of the building to practically the back wall and the other bar was on the left wall, kind of like the same or twin bars. As you walked in, the raised lit dancefloor was in front of you, a little to the left.
As you walked in the coat check was to your left, the DJ booth was right behind it. The building was close to the street, entrance was facing the street. Hi everybody! I am trying to remember the name of the disco I use to DJ at back in the early 80’s.
